Homemade DIY Frantz filter for WMO - Toliet Paper oil filter

I have two Mercedes 300D's on the road. One is a 1984 in great shape I don't experiment much with but the other is a 1985 thats been around the ringer I have been trying things with. I filtered two gallons of WMO through denim jean legs twice put it in the tank and added ten gallons of fuel. Thats my first experience with WMO and so far so good seems smoother. Now I want to make a better filter setup, something I can drop a couple gallons of WMO in a week and walk away from then throw it in the car awhile later. I have read a couple posts on the frantz filter and was wondering if any great minds in here had any ideas on setting up a gravity system with the tp through a couple barrels. I was thinking some pvc with wooden dowels in the middle of the tp connected to a tank on the top that would filter through to a second tank and then pump that out to car. I read a lot of people use actual oil and fuel filters with vaccums and pumps but I want to try the simple frantz system first. Thanks for the ideas.

I've been using filter bags for years now. If you allow the WMO to drip through it at a constant rate that equals the amount going out. I pump my settled, cold VO through one at somewhere around a gallon/minute. And it works great. This way you can actually know how fine your are filtering. Instead of what ever the TP is. Which won't be very filtered.
Here is what I use. I use the Two-in-One bags. Inner bag filters to 5 microns, the outer bag to 1 micron. I've filtered hundreds of gallons of settled VO through them before having to replace them.

bag filter cleaning/reuse?

Hey guys, I am looking for ideas of improving my filtering as well. Using cheaper or better yet = reusable materials would be the ideal. Like to hear folks ring in ideas again....being able to measure micron quality is a bonus, for fueling confidence! So three questions to get us all going:

1) Is there a simple way to calculate micron filtering quality of clothing material: ex. the denim jeans used by Brentdh187, cotton Ts, or silk?

2) Can the bag filters recommended by Biodiesel300TD be cleaned out and reused/ to last longer?

3) What about the final water content?

Remove the inner cardboard tube from the toilet paper roll.

Measure the inside diameter.

Cut that diameter hole in the bottom of a bucket.

Find a piece of pipe the same diameter.

Drill several holes in the top half.

Seal the top of the pipe above the holes.

Seal the pipe into the hole in the bucket with solid part of pipe sticking out the bottom.

Push toilet paper over top of pipe with holes.

Save the oil filled toilet paper rolls to burn in fireplace, etc, for heat.

From what I have heard and seen about toilet paper filters, is that the oil goes through the end of the roll (between the layers), and not through the face. I would be interested in seeing photos of a TP filter, so i can build one for myself.

Haven't tried that. Don't know how it would work. Let me know what you find out. Thanks.
