Furnace oil
For many years I burned #2 fuel in my benz at .17 per gallon. When I was traveling back and forth to N.J., I filled up both ways in Phillipsburg N.J. at .229. I bought #2 fuel in Chicago from a heating oil distributor for my truck at .17 a gallon. Now they've got you where they want you. I had my truck checked once for red fuel at exit 23 Pa pike. If they catch you with red fuel, you better have some deep pockets.
Can you imagine how much tax the state and federal govs are collecting with the trucks, buses, and cars that are burning diesel. Here in Pa. they even get you for heating oil with what is called a "wholesale fuels tax" of about 6 or 7 percent. This tax doesn't show because it's on the refiners or those who import fuels to Pa. Of course they pass it on to the consumer in the form of higher prices. We can thank Gov. Dick Thornberg for that legacy. |

I can get rubber on the 1-2 even in a straight line, I don't want to burn to much rubber probably known to cause cancer in the state of california. Also back when changing the alternator belts I literally caught at least one of the belts on fire, so I was burning rubber then to.
Jeeze that is cheap, I thought all of that stuff priced in around $.90/gal! I wonder if a person were to save say $1.30/gal how many gallons would a person have to buy to break even after getting caught? (ie, how bad are the fines)

Cheap fuel
That cheap fuel was many years ago. I had a 1960 Mercedes 190Db, then a 1965 190Dc, both were treated to .17 furnace oil. And why not, we burned it in D-8s, D-9s, 988s, and a lot of other heavy equipment. Not so cheap anymore, the last red fuel I bought for my tractors was 1.19

I think it's in the $2000+/gal range.

From a different forum we were talking about fines and they seemed to vary from a slight slap on the wrist of about $100 for the first occasion to some states which had the fine at $100/gal of capacity. That'd get a bit steep in any tank, at least ours aren't huge if one were to get caught pulling that trick.
Never know what ghosts come and go. Jet fuel in a diesel is fine but some of that stuff has very poor lubrication quality so be careful which you pick. Quoting what a Cummins 12V can use for fuel: Quote:

Not that I would try it, but out of curiosity;
has anyone had their auto tank checked, ever?

A lot of people who drive passenger trucks do, there was one guy in Ohio who was getting pretty upset since they checked him twice in a month by accident. I'd imagine them checking a passenger car would probably a lot less likely. Myself, I've never been checked for it.

bad. No let me rephrase that....BAD....I would not work in the same room as that grinder when its in use. Why risk potential exposure to a fragmented wheel at speed? Depending on the construction of the shop I might not want to work in an adjacent room either... |

Has anyone had their TRUNK checked?
One could put a second tank in the trunk like the WVO people do, and fill it with whatever they want. Just make sure the factory tank has legal fuel in it, and everything should be fine.
BTW, I wonder how much is collected in road taxes for gasoline that winds up in lawnmowers?

Beef fat, Mutton Fat, Bacon Fat, Chicken fat, etc .
All of the above DO require a heated fuel tank for the fats, but once melted, it is fine to use. Just remember to shut down on diesel so that the fats don't clog your arteries and heart (fuel lines, pump and injectors)
