I have seen very few MB that have been modified and actually looked good, MB makes a pretty nice looking car stock. But I think very understated changes could work. I would only do a color change if you get the engine bay, door jams, and wheel wells. It will look like crap if you leave some gold paint somewhere. One thing that might look good is getting rid of some chrome and painting it body color. The most radical thing I would do to a MB is maybe "ghost" flames. If you had say a blown 560SEC that was black and very low those could look very cool.

Going back to old school hot rodders, maybe a W126 with it's top chopped and sitting very low, throw in a blown 502 with a manual trans. It could be cool if done right.

Well their are many different types of "flame" jobs. The bright red and orange fack looking ones you see on hot rods would look stupid on a MB. Then their is that guy that paints flames that look like real fire. Those are extremly cool just not on a MB. But I think very light "ghost" flames could be pulled off on the right MB. Besides it is just paint, if it looks bad spray over it.

Ernie Barnes and his painting "Suger Shack"

if any of you are familiar with the show "GOOD TIMES" at the begining of the show there is a piece (art) by an artist name Earnie Barne (sp) and i would love to have that on my side doors.

Ernie Barnes is an interesting artist. I met him at a gallery in Durham, NC (where he grew up) ten years ago. Wish I had the brains/$ to buy one of his paintings then.

He was a 10th round pick by the Colts in 1960 and went on to play for the Chargers and the Broncos.

Not that I am a huge fan of contributing to such ludicrious ideas but what about a maple yellow (our FAVORITE MB color) flame job? lol...

when I lived in LA there was a girl who drove a 1987 420SEL with the exact same "harlequin" paint job as the golf.

Just had my old 1984 300TD painted about three months ago....original color
and it sure looks good, matter of fact the color is just a shade lighter.
The body shop stripped the entire car down and then painted......and then about a month ago this lady runs a stop signs and hits my passenenger door and rear door.....anyway that has been repaired and we are looking good.

To Paint or Not to Paint is the Question...............

(Go With The Original Color Is My Vote)

There are weird people all over the place. I mean, you're the guy who wants to jack up your car on big 44" mudders.

Most 'hippied out' benzes (and other makes) that I've seen are junkyard refugees, like the jacked up 'hillbillied out' benzes. If someone took a pristine car and gave it a crappy fingerpaint job I'd be a little disappointed, but if someone ressurects a car thats on its way to the crusher, I figure its got a new lease on life and they can do whatever they please with it.

I'm not going to make a value judgement between people who hippy out cars and people who hillbilly out cars. Its just a car, its here to make its owner happy.

peace,
sam
