Idk answer but what car are you working on? Ive changed at many shockes and struts by just using a spring compressor, a vice and hand tools

my son wants to change the shocks and struts on a 2004 e320 wagon. he says he needs this tool.
is that correct?

Apparently my son isn't going to do this-what's an accurate hour total for the mechanic doing both sides changing shocks and springs ?

I can't imagine it taking more than a couple of hours labor.

first shop quoted book time as 3.1 hours; front wheel alignment after, yes?

IIRC no need for an alignment after shock replacement but it probably is not a bad idea.
