Recall

Im looking for a dealer in the San Diego area who still will honor the recall for the replacement of the trap from the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. Mine has separated and In a blind attempt I tried to weld the thing to the thing and ended up doing it again and cutting to make the trap line up with the turbo. A three day nightmare to say the least. Now my trap is worse than before and chocking me with the exhaust coming into the cab. I have Rick and his retro fitting bypass experiment in line, but I wanted to hear from all to find out if I can capitalize on the recall although being late to the dance. Please help if you can.

oldsinner,
Houses in the L.A. area run between 500K to 50 million. It is an enormous spread out area. Think 75 miles wide! Most people live in the outlying areas where it is a little more reasonable (but not much). My son paid about 160K for his place in the San Fernando Valley about 20 years ago. Today it would be priced at $400K I'm a native and would leave this State in a second but for my age.

I'm looking for a MB shop in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles.

I see 2 recommends for ANG Mercedes in Sun Valley almost 10 yrs ago.
I checked Yelp & they only have 2 reviews & one of them bad.

Doing research trying to find a mech who I can trust to work on my 83 500 SEC.

My mechanic Enrique of MB Motors retired & I have to figure out how to pass smog.

CamelotShadow, I was going to recommend MB motors anyway. I am sure that whoever took over is just as good. Why don't you drive out there and size the place/personnel up? Maybe start off with an oil change or brake inspection and get a feel for the place. And it may be strange but stop in at your closest Benz dealer and ask them for a recommendation on your old classic. They may know of an indie locally.

AC service in San Pedro

Does anyone know a reputable shop that can service the AC system in my W126? I live in San Pedro, CA. It doesnt blow cold intermittently. Apparently the previous owner had part of the system's plumbing converted to R134, but not all of it. That is the story from my current shop. Is it possible to have both R12 and R134 plumbing and still have an operational system? If so, could that be the reason my AC blows cold often but fails to blow cold sometimes? Thanks in advance for any advice

Cool Concord, CA and 1987 560SEC (upgrading)

Hey Guys,
Good to hear about local (Concord, CA) shops WITH CONTACT NAMES. But here it is 2019 and a lot of these places have gotten so inundated with people like us that they are overwhelmed and don't have the time they did in 2000. Specialities have taken over in the marketplace. So, if you are current on shops, what I am restoring my 1987 560SEC to better than 1987 from the WHEELS/TIRES that touch the ground to the SUN ROOF that reaches the sky. This beautiful machine(solid tank) is my wife's car for transporting the grandkids but as soon as I get her something she "likes better" it will be MINE.
FRONT SUSPENSION(Steering/Handling)
INTAKE(Responsiveness/Pick-up/etc)
VACUUM SYSTEM(After running for a while and starting again, the idle and responsiveness REALLY SUCKS. But after a few minutes it is just okay again)
HORSEPOWER( for such a large motor... swap it of rebuild? Turbo/Super-Charge/AMG/???)
EXHAUST(OPEN both IN and OUT. Better for California SMOG than the way it runs now)
EXTERIOR(AMG Lower Trim, Paint-very close to original but would like more gold all around)
INTERIOR(Paneling-in process, Lights-LEDS in process, Instrument Cluster(Tachometer, Oil Gauge, Temp... better Digital or ?)
Windows-done
Bodywork-done
Tires-done but will be redone with wheels

Gotta keep it on the road for her so it is taking forever as a weekend warrior.
Any input for people to call, people to see, places to go?

Saw this and had to reply to OLDSINNER... love it. Anyway, I LOVE Marina del Rey, but unless you have a TRUST FUND or INHERITANCE of some kind, it takes a LOT of money to get what I would call a house and on any kind of property. Don't know where you want to settle but if you need to ask, my answer would be EVERY PENNY you make in income... the more you make the more you want for yourself... (car-MERCEDES, boat, family, and community).
