the 634 or the 630 will work in any american 140 car with the stock becker or alpine radio. The 634 will require a special adapter cable and depending on the year/ model there are different adapters needed to plug into the stock cdc cable.

Just to confirm - a Becker 1492 and Alpine CHA-S634 combo will play MP3s? Are there any special control functions available or will the Becker play songs in folders as if all songs were in one big folder?

For a 95 S420, do I need the $10 Alpine pigtail or also the $100 Blitzsafe adapter?

Thanks,
Sixto

The factory radio will play as long as all songs are in a single folder it won't read text...
Depending on the model of your stock radio you will need the alpine cable no matter what then you will need the blitz safe adapter that works for the model of radio you have. What model is it?

In my case it's a Becker 1492.

Hmm... $300 for a CHA-S634, $10 for the Alpine pigtail and $100 for the Blitzsafe adapter. Makes an iPod and RF adapter or Sony MP3 stereo and MP3 changer seem mightly appealing.

Thanks,
Sixto

I've been researching this option as well. I ended up replacing my becker 1492 with a sony mp3 unit (new cdx-7705x @ $200 ebay). The unit played excellently except this constant hissing noise that i just can't figure out. this is installed on an 98 e320 btw.

sixto,
the cd-changer is 239 at most sites if u do a price search.
the cable is also cheaper, not 100.
that's if you havent already purchased them.
good luck.
