As much as I know about MBs, I know NOTHING about speakers. I currently have the Alpine CDM-7857 (http://www.alpine1.com/html/cdm_7857.html) instead of the stock Becker Grand Prix. Have fairly new, stock speakers that came with the car. I'm not a big time music person. Just want speakers that can do more justice to the new system. Any suggestions?
Also, is there anything that can improve radio reception? It isn't as good as say the CDs that I play. I know it shouldn't be as good, but it isn't really anywhere close. I think my antenna is still okay. Any suggestions? Thank you all so much for your help. I was also told a company called MB Quartz makes the best speakers... true? |
Daniel:
I have been listening to a lot of potential speakers, lately, and reading a lot of reviews. The MBQuartz sound very nice, but kind of bright and short of mid range to me. I haven't listened to Focals, but everyone seems to think they are just about the top end, except maybe for a/d/c or dynaudio. All the above are pretty high ticket items. Boston Acoustics speakers sounded great to me, and I may still go with them. They are not quite as expensive as the above, and some reviewers think they sound better. I liked them much better than the MBQuartz. Diamond Audio look like they would fit in my dash better than anything else, and the reviewers seem to think they sound even better than the Bostons or MBQuartz, but I have not listened to them yet, and won't decide until I do. Hope this helps. |
Where should I go to test out the speakers?
|
Some of them may be available for listening at big chain stores like circuit city, etc. Otherwise, most of the manufacturers have web pages listed at http://www.hifiheaven.com/car-speakers.htm.
These sites usually have a dealer location feature based on your zip code. Diamond audio isn't listed on this page, they are at http://www.diamondaudio.com/ and you have to email them to get an authorized dealer list - their warranty is doubled if a dealer installs them. |
Dsinger to answer your FM Question, you could get an FM booster, but I am not sure how well they work.
