I've recently installed an after market JVC cd/ipod compatable head unit. I tapped into the existing front and rear speaker wire behind the factory head unit. I think the antenna lead is in the rear amplifer in my 1993 300td 2.5, I just can't find it to reroute it to the back of the new unit. Can you tell me where it is and if it will fit the new head unit's antenna input?

Did you find your antenna lead. It should be right beside your other wires going to the stock radio head.

Nice job, Hassman. You've got room enough to put a permanently-mounted GPS in there, it looks like.

Once the old stock radio is out, find the new radio's wiring loom and follow the color coded lead legend. Cut the old connectors off (except of course the antenna wire) and match the leads. I slipped heatshrink tubing on before soldering the connections. Makes for a very neat, tidy and easy wiring setup.

By using the existing wiring (yes, through the stupid console fader) everything can be hooked up and installed in much less than an hour.

The trunk amp, alll speakers etc etc all work. Since the new head is so much more powerful than the stock oem radio, everything sounds and works well.

Have you done a similar upgrade to your '91 300E? My parents have a '91 that they may want to put a new head unit or CD changer into, and from what I can gather, the Becker 1432 runs a control cable to the trunk tuner/receiver, then that puts out the speaker wires to the fader and then the amp then the speakers. Where's the best place to interface into the speaker wiring?

I didn't do the 91 300E but it is exactly the same (both have the active base via the amp in the trunk). Since the newer radios do MP3s etc, I would either stick with the head alone or add a changer unit, but I would not bother with the factory CD cable etc.
