About a year ago I bought 4 6.5 inch Infiniti Kappa UNIplane (1.25 inch deep) super thin coaxials and 2 8" Infiniti Kappa Uniplane (1.5 inch deep) speakers along with 2 4x75watt amplifiers and a Clarion Pro Audio DR9575(best they made at the time) The car I was planning to put them in was sold shortly after. I would like to put them in my 86' 300e w124. I was wondering if anyone had attempted a similarly inconvenient install and where they placed the speakers? Can they fit into the door panel or must I fabricate speaker pods? Does anyone know where to buy premade 6.5 inch speaker pods? I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions or help, maybe even a picture of your install. Thanks so much, Jason McNeese 86 300e 75k miles 93 300e 120k miles(dads) |
Hi, Jason:
Go to this thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=3127 there are links to pictures there for installing 6 1/2" speakers in the door panels of a 300E (TE wagon?), although I understand that there may be differences between older Es like ours and later models on the door panel placement - check before cutting! Also, about 4 pages of info come up from the "search" button using the key words "door speaker", including some placement alternatives that include using the map pockets, and discussion of the problems trying to use the kick panels up front (parking brake). Good Luck on the install! |
I suggest you consider simply acquiring speakers that will fit in the stock openings. If you use high end speakers you can get excellent sound. Then, put a subwoofer in the trunk with a port to the package shelf. I used a pair of ADS coax (cheapest they make and better than the best crap made by Alpine, JBL, MB Quart, and so on) 4" for the dash and 5.25" for the rear; fit just fine (rear goes in from the trunk). A 50x4 McIntosh amp with a xover and sub out is in the trunk; sounds spectacular. I have not yet put a sub in as that will add another grand to the system and, believe it or not, the midbass is strong and I don't really feel the need so far. Other speakers to consider are diamond, focal, and eton.
good luck Carl |
