Opinions wanted: buy new radio/CD or try to make stock one work

I just bought a 1999 SL500 and there is no CD changer nor any apparent connectors/cables. Do you think I should just buy a new in-dash radio/CD unit or try and make the stock unit work?

take it in to a good car stereo shop... most of them know how to connect an aftermarket changer to the head unit. They can also tell you if it's possible to put in a new head or not... (you can't always replace just the head in a MB)
