AM side of the radio

01 E320 the AM side of the radio has heavy static since making a 900 mi move; Larson MB, Federal Way, WA., charged $200 and essentially said, "You should be listening to FM". Is there a Long/Short switch or Antenna Trim available somewhere on this radio.

I don't know about this vintage, but earlier versions with the "in glass" antenna have an AM amplifier. These are famous for going bad.

Thanks Ed...believe me when I say every shop wants to sell me a new radio, every professional and shade tree mechanic swears they can fix it but nobody can tell me if there is a trim screw, isn't that odd?

I might add, check the connections from the antenna in and out of the amp.
On the '97, the amp is on the under side of the rear package shelf.
Good luck,
Ed

THANK YOU ED.

Not aware of a trim screw, I know what you mean though.
I am pretty sure there is just 1 antenna amp, it's behind the drivers side upper 1/4 panel trim (on the side of the rear window inside the car). I agree, check for loose connections at the amp. The rear window was never replaced was it?

Yeah, I think the trim screw went out with tubes, or shortly there after.
I also think the amp was moved as Gilly mentioned. It will be near where the antenna wires exit the window.

The car is still new ('01 with only 18k miles), everything is exactly as it came from the factory, encluding the great leather smell. Sorry my knowledge concerning the radio relates to a 'trim screw', my last new MB was a '78 450 all completely stock when I sold her June '06.
