Sound proofing
 

Ok, well I will begin to sound proof my car just to get better sound and to have less road noise. What I am looking for is directions on how to take off the door panel ( 87' 300e w/o door speakers ) and places on where to place some matting. This will be a fun project Has anybody done this already?

Nate, which Second Skin products have you used?

I'm poor, so I've only used Damplifier in the doors of my truck... killed the rattles....

Now I've got a truck with a great sound system, and one working caliper :wtf:

I trust all of their products are damn good... I want to get some sledge for my new car... but i need to do some more work to it first

Nate, am I correct in remembering that some/most of their products are sprayed on? I've read so many different things on here in the last day or so I maybe confusing SecondSkin with something else.

I've used spray-on insulation on houses before. It is an expanding product that swells up to fill the entire space you shoot it into. How does the Damplifier work?

My vote would go to RAAM-mat. I think thats how its spelled. Personally, I think the bang for the buck with that product is as good as anything else going. Plus, they offer MANY variations of layered dampening, in case you really want to go all out. Its a small company ran by a very knowledgable person. He frequents many of the online forums and is well respected with a strong customer base.

There are number of solutions, mats, closed and open cell foam, slurrys, foam.

I used Dynamat and the car is very very quiet.

Ramblin, that is impressive. How many sq ft are in a bulk pack of Dynamat? Is it adhesive-backed or do you have to spray or paint on some type of an adhesive?

I used 2 bulk packs of 36 sq ft or 9 sheets @$150 each. A long time to apply as it is all cut and paste....This product has self adhesive backing and literally does not come of even in the hottest weather...I have used other inferior brands and they always have something that is just not right...The car is amazingly quiet....If you watch Overhaulin on TLC they do each car they do in Dynamat....

So, you just cut the pieces to the size and shpe you need and then peel off the backing? Is that correct?

Did you run into any problems where the thickness of the material made it difficult to fit things back together?

Ok, I was wondering of the installation process and more writeups and possibly instructions on how to fix the doors and such. I will most likely do the floor since the carpet began the peel off. :eek: Good thing we have an extra car to drive while I do this.

I found that cutting Dynamat was easy with left and right and straight tin snips.
Cut to fit and apply with a small roller like for wallpaper or something like that...I put double layers on the floors to kill road noise and just kept applying it everywhere there was metal. The car is very very quiet. The bass is quite good also...No rattling interior parts....Took a full day to do it...And it was hard work crawling in and out of the car...You also have to make sure the surfaces are clean so the Dynamat will stick well...Worth every bit of effort to do however.

Tin snips?
 

I thought the shiny metal part of that material was just a very thin foil. Do you really need tin snips to cut it?

Also, you mentioned multiple layers. How thick is it? Do you just cut the top layers slightly smaller to allow your carpet to fit underneath trim strips and critical areas like that?
