Hello,
I recently purchased a 1996 C220, and I want to install a star-tac hands-free unit. Model S6965b.
The unit needs and external antenna connection. My cousin has 1995 C220, and it had an older style motorola cell phone in it when he purchased it. This phone did not have a separate antenna, but rather raised the power antenna when it turned on. The phone seemed to get good signal, so I am wondering if the car has a cellular output somewhere in the antenna system. I know that the optional built in cellular phone was available in these cars, however mine does not have that option. Hooking up the power antenna to the phone is no big deal, but i am wondering if there is a way to get signal from the aerial, which would provide a much better line to the car, as well as not have to deal with installation of a separate antenna system.

Thank You very much,
George Androulakis

You need a different antenna to be able to receive radio and cellular signals.
I have a combined Hirschmann power antenna on my C250D and my 300SL. The antenna goes up in three sections; the two bottom sections are chromate and receive radio signals and the top section is plastic and receives cellular signals. The antenna is connected to a Kathrein splitter, which is connected to the radio and to the cell phone by two different cables. The antenna goes up when either the cell phone is activated or the radio is turned on.

greetingz,
