1990 300 E 2.6 Audio system question

I have stock speakers in 1990 300 E 2.6 Recently, I changes the head unit with JVC HDR-1 since my original Becker radio was shot. Now one of my door speaker is shot. Just now out of desparation, I unplugged the Bass AMP in the trunk and both front and rear speakers are working, but the sound is not that good, but better than when one door speaker was shot. I went to several Auot Stereo places and all are saying different stuff. The regulars circuit city , BEST Buy stores do not want to touch the car.

I would like to know if anybody out there has something similar happen to my situation and how did they resolved it.

What speakers should I go for?
Do I need a separate AMP ?
Do I need a Sub woofer ?
What type of system works the best with JVC HDR-1?

Thanks

Depends on what you want out of a sound system. The average person is fine with 4 speakers and a headunit powering the speakers, and some demand the quality of sound that can only be reproduced through the use of multiple components!

I do want to keep the door speakers. Can I go with Alpine Type S for all speakers and mount a sub under the first aid kit with separate Alpine 1 channel amp. Do you suggest component for the front and coaxial for the rear ? Is Alpine better than JL Audio ?
