cd Changer e430 2000

I just purchased a cd changer throught E-bay and was told, later by a friend that worked on Mercedes that the radio has to be set-up or programmed to except a cd changer. Is this true and or can anyone help me.
Thanks E430 2000

True.
Not sure what year or what models this procedure implemented.
That's why I like my older 500SEC so much. Reprograming is not a worry for me on this model.
Do a search (using the serch link at the top of the page) on battery replacement too. If not done properly by keeping you car's electrical "alive" during the replacement, you may have to reprogram again.

I found out the hard way with my S500. Good luck.

I'm not sure about this one. Do you have the older 1998-99 style headunit or the newer fiber-optic system? I don't know if all 2000s have the newer system. Did you check with a local MB dealer? My E430 has the stock changer in the trunk (Alpine). I have currently bypassed it as I use an iPod instead and there is an excellent product that plugs into the CD changer input on your headunit and you can control the iPod via the headunit - it becomes the Cd changer, essentially.

All this to say, I don't need to reprogram anything when I switch back and forth between the iPod control and CD changer (by unplugging at the back of the head unit).

If yours isn't working, it could be you got the wrong changer type?

I have a 2000 E430 with the fiber optic setup I bought the cd changer model #3198. I should recieve the unit next week through the mail, so I may be concerned for nothing.
