560SEL Door speaker location

Does anyone have an pics or info on the speaker mounts in the doors on a 560SEL. Mine currently has a 4 speaker setup, 2 in dash and 2 in the parcel tray and I would like to run some in the front doors as well. The dash holes are not large enough for a good size speaker so I thought the tweeters would sit well in there.

Cheers
Matt.

I considered doing this for a long time on my '87 560SEL, but finally realized that it wasn't meant to be. As far as I can tell the only place speakers will fit (because of the depth) is where the "map pocket" is. You would have to cut a hole in the pocket to insert the speaker, and somehow seal that portion of the pocket (did that make any sense??). After looking into it, I found that it would either look awful, or cost a bundle, so, I just ended up sticking Boston 3.5" coaxials in the dash. A BIG improvement from the originals, but still not great. If you find an easier way to get 6.5" speakers into the car, let me know! I was hoping (when I first bought the car) to put Boston ProSeries6.53 (3-way separates) in, I'd still love to do it, if possible.

hmm, where are the factory locations for the 10 speaker system then? Surely they aren't all in the rear leaving just those little fronts? Anyone out there with a factory 10 speaker SEL able to shed some light?

Cheers
Matt.

The door covers....

...are completely different. The door speakers in the 10-speakers system are located towards the rear of the door, so when you sit on the driver's seat, the speaker would be closest to your left "cheek." Not a real good location in my opinion.

One potential solution would be to replace the1989 560SEL interior door cover with the door cover from a newer Benz, then you'd have the speaker enclosures all ready to go.

What year 560SEL uses these door covers? 1990-1991? Are they otherwise the same...meaning aside from the speaker holes would everything fit where it's supposed to?

10 speaker door covers

Are there speakers in the rear doors as well or just the fronts? Does anyone have a part # for these panels?

Cheers
Matt.
