How do I access the speaker fader switch?

Hi All... I have figured out that I am loosing the right channel of the stereo in my 88 560SEL because the Fader wheel in the center wood console is faulty. The only problem is that I can't figure out how to get at the fader. This same wood console houses the window rocker switches as well. Anyone know how to lift the wood console to access all those switches? Help? Please post response or drop me an email at weasel@coffeeweasel.com

The wood slides backwards, and then lifts up. Push the fader up through the wood, from underneath. Or, if you are going to scrap the fader, just pull that sucker outta there.

Larry, is that true for all MB's or just the 126?

As far as pushing the fader up and outta there, it works on 123's as well. My 124 doesn't have one. I'm thinking the 116's are the same way. The 108's use a dash mounted gadget.

On my W124, the center wood console was held in place by a single screw that was under the carpet of the center console tray (directly under the armrest). Basically, where the carpet meets the wood of the console. Just peel it back lightly, and there will probably be a screw there (philips). Remove this and the wood console will lift up from this end and then slide off.

You should have easy access to the fader switch. As Larry mentioned, I would simply bypass the fader completely, especially if you have a newer headunit.

Good luck.

How does the console wood come off on a W123? Is it similar to the W126? I need to get at the switches in our 300D (hazard...windows...etc) and don't want to break anything.
