strange BE 1692 problem

Has anyone ever had a problem with this unit draining your battery overnight? I recently bought a refurbished one to replace my original 1692, and since then, the battery has been dead every morning I go to start the car. I took it out yesterday to test my theory, sure enough, I had full battery this morning. Any thoughts?

I think herein lies the problem. I've never had a problem like this, no. I would suspect that either -

a) the refurbished unit has a flaw, allowing it to draw current even when off

b) the refurb unit was not installed correctly/wiring incorrect, causing the draw.

I would very carefully inspect the wiring to make sure nothing was damaged or disconnected when the unit was replaced, and also that the wiring is correctly connected. Once this was FULLY verified, I would turn my attention to the refurbished unit, potentially getting a replacement/refund.

Good luck!

I would only add that if it's the refurb unit (sounds like it) I would get my money back and send my old 1692 to Becker North American for exchange.

I replaced my original unit in the car, no more battery drain. This leads me without doubt to believe the unit has a problem. Unfortunately I bought this off ebay, so there will be no exchange or refund.

Radio Problem

I'm just curious, where did you get the refurbished radio from? We have been refurbishing radios for 20+ years. You might want to contact me direct to see if I can help you with this situation.

I had a similar problem with a 0980 in my 92 SEL, it seems a gear falls off and a little motor keeps on running trying to release the CD. I got a new battery, and heard ir running one quiet evening while in the trunk. Yes they have power all the time to allow the cartrige to be ejected with the ignition off. E-Bay A-Ware

BE-0980 Changer

Just for information only. This is a picture of the gear that comes loose in the changer. To fix the problem just reinstall the gear backwards and it won't fall off any more.
