Antenna question

Today I was trying to reset my radio presets and in the process I pressed the Antenna switch to raise it to its max. When I went to lower it back down I noticed it wasn't moving. So when I turned off the car, I could hear the antenna motor running then it started clicking before it went silent. I removed the barrel nut thing that secures the mast to the fender and gently pulled it free form the motor to discover it had broken off inside!

I had replaced it with a dealer supplied mast a couple years ago but sure never thought the thing would break so soon! It's soooo uncharacteristic of these fine motorcars to have something break so fast! (For those of you that don't catch the sarcasm in that last comment - sarcasm intended!). I'm guessing I will need to remove the motor and 'crack' it open to get the rest of the nylon gear strap from it? Thanks for your thoughts...
