bose amplifier question PLEASE HELP!!

any help on this matter would be GREAT!!! my original problem started a couple of months ago with crackling and popping speakers - volume wouldn't go up, etc. anyway i found another used replacemeny w140 bose amp. got it in the mail last week - installed it and whatdoyaknow - same problem. the guy i bought it from swears it worked when he took it out - he put a new system in his w140 500 sel. is there any chance the the head unit could be the root of this problem or perhaps he knew it was defective and went ahead and installed a new system because of it. i am in the process of contacting paypal and my credit card company (mbna) to see what my options are. any ideas? thanks!!

The problem with my radio was cracking and popping noise from the rear speakers. It was not volume dependant, very loud at any volume level, and was intermittent. Other than that the radio worked fine. I've replaced all electolytic capacitors in Bose and in this tuner/amplifier. Also I have a small cooling fan added for the Bose. The problem gone. It would be an easy job if you had experience with soldering/unsoldering PCB. Capacitors are cheap and readily available. If you interested in doing it I have a list of the capacitors needed and some pictures of the inside of the units.

Amplifier Problem

Hi bs500,

Your problem is the amplifier I'm sure due to the nature of the W-140 amps. Buying one from the junkyard is just buying one with the high potential of having the same or worse problems. If you send me the amplifier I will be glad to test it for you at no charge, just pay the return shipping. If a problem is found I will be glad to let you know what can be done to resolve the problems. Let me know what you want to do. If you want you can send both the amplifiers and we can identify the better of the two.

Bose amp

Cleeve is correct, check them both out including the tuner. I got a BOSE from MB (recon) and had them install it in the driveway. It still crakled and popped, they sent me to one of their authorized repair facilities, who installed another, still did not sound right. They next repaired the tuner, now sounds "perfect". This was almost a year ago, as you can see my dealer parts guy is a "good guy", they could have stuck me with the amp! You cant beat the offer to check it out for the price of postage, Cleeve is in the "good guys club" in my opinion!
