2000 E320 CD Player Installation Info needed
Does any one have any knowledge of installing, a the MB CD Player in the trunk of the 320. I have heard the following, from a MB Parts person.
A USED cd player, WILL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING : A: MOUNTING BRACKET B. AN INTERFACE CABLE. C: MB cd PLAYER D: SPECIAL PROGRAMMING OF THE cd INTO THE RADIO? Any one that has any info, regarding this information would be useful, a friend will be trading his MB in, and he wants to sell me his unit. thanks Robert |

There are two different types of cd changers that you can use. There is the factory alpine fiber optic and for this you will need a bracket and that is it unless you add a phone then you will need to have the car programmed for it. There are no cables needed, the car has the fiber optic and the power gnd and data cable behind the left rear trunk panel. The other option is the becker cd changer it is usually less money than the alpine, it is a direct plug in too. Good luck!

There may be two brands of changers. They would both be D2B, or "fiber optics" design. Neither would be considered a direct plug-in, as they would both require programming of the radio to work properly with the CD changer. The dealer or someone owning an SDS (Star Diagnosis) computer would need to change the version coding (D2B parameters) to accept and play the CD changer.
The installation itself is very easy, the hardest part is removing the left trunk trim to allow access to the fiber optics cables and also an electrical connection which serves as the power, ground, and "wake-up" line to the changer, this all comes from the radio itself. I believe that most dealer would be willing to do the SDS work for little or nothing, it would only take 5 minutes or so to do the programming. Gilly
