My Amp - Pyramid PB580 800 watt 2 channel (800x1 at 2 ohms, 400x2 at 2 ohms, 200x2 rms at 2 ohms, 150x2 rms at 4 ohms)


My Sub - Single 10" bandpass box with 10" Pyramid PWRD 10 1000 watts max, 500 watts rms, 2" 4 layer kapton voice coil, 4 ohms, 60 + 60 oz magnet structure. Running this off one channel of amp at 150 watts rms at 4 ohms. I am thinking about using the other channel for the rear speakers.


Left Front - 4x6 Pyramid 4680g 3 way with poly mica cones. As you can see I had to modify the stock grilles to allow for the tweeters. I also had to modify the basket (tin snips) to get them to fit because i chose to save money and get teh US 4x6 instead of the Euro 4x6. here is a picture of the speaker before modification http://www.bllamb.com/pics/4680g.jpg I just cut most of the frame off.

Left Rear - Pyramid CK657 6.5" Custom Component Set, 400 watts max each woofer and 100 watts max each tweeter. I think I am going to pull the tweeters out and paint them flat black because the chrome looks off.

I ran the wiring for the subs from the back of the radio under the front carpet then down the passenger side rail to the back seat then through the hole for cables then into the trunk and hooked up the amp. While I had teh back seat out, I lifted up the back deck and removed both bins because they were too shallow for the speakers. To hold the lids up I inserted some shims (visible in the last two pictures) to keep the corner from sagging. To allow sound from the sub into cabin, I removed the heavy wool carpet-like stuff from the stock speakers openings which give the sound an unobstructed path from the trunk and since teh box is a bandpass box (used by Bose for their home theater systems) the air is forced out into the trunk and then into the cabin and just as Bose claims in their home systems, unless you had a songs with tons of bass, the bass sounds like it's coming from your speakers. The lack of bins also allows more bass to pass through into the cabin. This install involves minor cutting of back deck and is very easy. I installed each piece when I had time so it took me a whiles but if you had a whole day to do it, you should finish in 5 or 6 hours at most and even quicker if you have better tools than I did (used a drill to drill 20 or so holes around where the mids and tweeters would go, then used small saw to cut from hole to hole). If you have a rotary tool with a cutting bit, you could cut out each hole in a couple minutes instead of 20 like mine took.

As for cost, I spent $20 for the pair of front speakers, $80 for the amp and components (packaged deal), $42 for the sub and $25 on the box. Add in shipping and the total would be around $225-250 which is very reasonable and it sounds great. I have all this connected to a 45x4 Pioneer DEH-P4100 head unit (2000 model I believe) but will be replacing it, because the cd player makes a clicking sound while playing cds, with a Balupunkt Tokyo RDM-169 unit that doesnt stick out as far as my pioneer (trim ring is deeper for pioneers and face is smaller) and will match my dash lighting better. I was trying to find a Blaupunkt Honolulu but no one had teh black model for the same or less than I got the Tokyo for (160 including shipping). All in all, $400 for a great sounding system with components in the rear and amp and sub. If you would like to know the people on eBay that I got all my equipment from I would be glad to pass that along. I have not heard the factory premium system (8 speaker) so I cannot compare than but I know this will sound better because of the sub.
