W115 radio works, but at one volume. Loud.
I can't turn it down.
Can anyone suggest a fix? Obviously, replacing the radio would work but I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible. Just tending to the minor things while I'm waiting on my next batch of parts/tools... |
What kind of radio? a becker analog? Probably in the vol switch.
I have a Becker Eropa Cassett, and it has the problem similar to yours. turn it on and goes to full vol, and other times is normal. turn vol control and is scratchy and or can hear the sound switch from one speaker to the other. I think the solution is to have the radio shipped to Becker and have it gone through. I have 4 of these and they all have a problen in this area. I just did some Googling on Becker radio etc... this might help. http://www.beckerautosound.com/ Charlie |

You can also get an Aux Input mod. http://www.beckerautosound.com/Classic/mb_classic%20114-115.html Estimate is $200-$300, though. At some point I'll throw that much at it, if that's what it takes, but there are too many other things that rank higher on the list at the moment. |
I would try some electronic cleaner/lubricant on it, maybe clean the DIN plug contacts while you're at it.
I did the aux in mod on mine: http://gallery.w116.org/v/garage/koan/ Cheap, and it makes the old Becker a lot more usable! |
bump for cleaning the volume pot. It usually helps for mine.
