Becker 761 Info

I just picked up a Becker 761 from the local Pull A Part. Before I try to test it, I thought it might be good to have some idea as to wiring. I clipped the plugs and a short section of the wiring:

The main plug has a red wire, gray wire, black wire and brown wire. I assume red is power in and brown is ground? What the other two? Are the two small plugs right below the main plug for the speakers? And of course, what's the blue wire?

Oh btw, if this thing does work it will be installed in my 1977 300D.

Thanks.

Here's the front - I've yet to clean it/recondition it.

Nice job trying to keep it real instead of putting in a modern ricer radio.

Wire colors don't match modern standards.
red = constant power
gray = dash lights
black = switched power
brown = ground
blue = power antenna trigger

white cap/red & black leads = left speaker
black cap/green & black leads = right speaker

When you bench test it, you will need to rig some sort of antenna or you will get nothing but static. A short piece of wire stuck in the center hole of the antenna plug will do.

Look in the radio well for an unused 2 pin connector that has constant power and illumination on it. If not you will have to tap the fuse box for these. On a 123 IIRC fuse 2 is constant power and dash lights on fuse 1.

If you can't get it to work contact Ed at Becker in NJ he can make it right. beckerautosound.com

If it turns out to be DOA don't chuck it, Ed is always looking for core radios for parts.

Thumbs up

I have a Becker 630 two piece system with rear seat remote in my '85 745i BMW, has many of the same functions. I attached a picture below.

Other functions on it should be...

DK - cassette mute

L - long wave

M - AM frequency

U - FM frequency

No idea what 1-4 do.
