Attempting to reinstall a Becker 1432 in a 1991 300 E. All of the uniquely shaped wiring connector plugs that mate with the Becker radio were trashed when the harnesses were cut for installation of an aftermarket radio. Is there a source for these input connector plugs? M-B dealer states they are available only as part of a complete wiring harness.

Thanks.

Try www.crutchfield.com -- they're an excellent source for technical assistance and OEM wiring harnesses. I purchased a Blaupunkt Nevada CD/Stereo unit to replace my Becker Grand Prix (1986 2.3-16V). The stereo was furnished with OEM interface connectors/pigtails. Hope this helps.

wiring harness

I am taking the old becker out and installing a nakamichi with a xm satellite and later a cd changer in my 89 300 se. I ordered the harness and the kit gave me a main harness for the power, etc. and 4 speaker harnesses. The only problem, it is not installed yet, but the harness plugs did not match the factory wiring in the car. Maybe I just have pulled all the wires and found them yet. the kit from Crutchfield is definately worth the $15.

Do you also have the 1432 tuner pack that goes in the trunk? It looks like this in the picture along with the two amps, if not the connectors are not going to help. If you need the plugs I can help you if you take a picture and post it so I can see whats missing!

I have the 1432 but when I looked, not all plugs are plugged into my unit. In particular, I am refering to the single wire plug next to the big white round plug. (I think on the pic is brown and blue color).

Can you tell me what that wire does and if I need to connect it?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

In this case, does anyone know which wire (or if there is a wire) that connects to the antenna and supply power for it?

I am hoping to add a switch some where along the harnesses to bypass the antenna power so I can turn it on and off when I use RADIO function. I hate it to extend when I am always on CD.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Happy New Year.

The alarm wire disconnects by design when you pull the radio out of its place. Thats why you always going to find it disconnected when the radio is out. Just plug it in when you put radio back. Antenna control wire is in the right bottom corner of the picture. You can't see it good as it is covered by the upper connector harness. It is blue single wire in black tubing with push-on terminal - this is for early 92 - 93? W140 cars.

thanks so much for the reply. I think now I know which one is the antenna. The bottom right hand coner just under the power harness.

as for the car, YES its a W140 1992 model.

As for the alarm harness. I know what you mean when the radio is out, the plug will be out. The strange thing is that when I pull the radio out from its place and without touching any wires yet, the alarm wire is not connected already!! i.e. the factory did not plug it in! Now that this wire is not connected, I don't seem to have any problems with the alarm nor the radio.

Really strange, I would expect the alarm to go off if it is the alarm wire but nothing happens. not bothering me but just very strange!

Thanks anyway for all the help in locating the antenna wire.

cheers for the new year

Sorry for not being clear in my reply: what I meant to say was that the connector for this alarm wire has a spring hook engaged inside the panel. When you remove the radio this hook unplugs connector from the radio automatically. Try it and you'll see how it works. It was quite a puzzle for me too.
Maybe when this wire is not connected Alarm Control module is smart enough to disregard this input? With this wire not connected you don't have alarm protection for the radio but all other alarm functions are OK? Did you try that?
Anyway this wire has nothing to do with the radio operation as it is connected to the radio chassis ground.
