adapter for 99 e300 iphone plug in?

i have read several threads on ttrying to adapt the stock stereos in my model car to be able to plug in my iphone and run the music off of it

i do not want an fm transmitter of any type

am looking for something that plugs into the back of the stereo and i can run a cord out or whatever so i can plug in a headphone cord to it, or something like that

i realize there is the dension adapter that can be plugged into the cd plug in the trunk, and i can run wires back to the front
but i prefer something that plugs into the back of the stereo if possible
does someone make a kit that does this that is not an fm transmitter?

there is a lot of info on this but a lot of it is over my head

thanks for any info you can give related to this

There is no adapter.

You can purchase one of the cassette adapters (which work very well unless you still want to play cassettes), but that will still require removing the HU and routing the wire out so you can close the door (if you have the newer-style Becker).

Or you can remove the HU and ship it to Becker and for $100 they will install an adapter that will allow you to plug in any standard 3.5mm audio input. (There are instructions on how to do this at Benzworld, but if the info here is over your head, soldering on the PCB in the HU probably isn't right in your wheelhouse.) ;)

Good luck.

Happy to help. I've paddled around this pool myself a couple of times, so it's all pretty fresh. Up until last fall I had survived with the cassette adapter, but then I finally made a decision and ended up just replacing my head unit with a nice Pioneer. It has both USB and AUX inputs (the USB I ran out the back to the armrest console where there is an 8GB thumb drive) as well as built-in HD and Bluetooth. My only complaint is that it doesn't look nearly as nice as the Becker unit, but otherwise I'm thrilled with the change. Double the cost of paying Becker to add the adapter, but lots more versatility and usefulness, and fewer cables and other things strewn about.

ok, i contacted becker auto sound and ask about their plug and play replacements and the cost of adding the aux to mine

they did not answer about adding the aux, so i emailed again on that but have not heard back yet

but they said the plug and play replacement stereos they have run from 300-700, unfortunately there is nothing but a pic of each stereo, no specs, etc

my options are blaupunkt and a choice of 4 different beckers, all of these will have the aux on them

any input on these stereos? plug and play would work well for me, i could do that myself

but using my same stock speakers do you think i would gain any better sound quality swapping to one of these newer ones or not?

not sure which way to go

does anyone have or have you heard any of these different plug and play stereos that becker auto sound offers to say whether there is a big difference in sound quality, etc?

If you have loads of cash, you can install a COMAND system.

Pros:
1) Gives you navigation
2) Has AUX input
3) CAN bus diagnostics

Cons:
1) Pricey
2) Nav updates are limited

Another huge CON (that increases the price dramatically): you have to find all of the trim and chassis pieces for the center stack because the COMAND is not single-DIN.

Courtney, please post a picture of the face of your current HU. Did you send that to Becker or tell them the model number? Since MB used different stereos, if you didn't do so then you really asked Becker a question they can't answer, because they don't have all of the information.

i will post one tonite when i get home, they sent me a quote of 100 to add the aux, i am seeing about the cost to have them go through the unit and check everything while it is there since it is quite a few years old now

too my knowledge it works fine, but won't hurt to check it

it seems in my reading a while back this car had an option of 2 different stereos that looked identical? is that right?
one was becker and the other could be alpine???? or something else??
if i do not have the becker will becker still do the aux for me and work on it? does anybody know?

i am hoping to pick up the radio removal tool from the dealer today and take it out tonite or tomorrow, so i will know for sure what it is by tomorrow

Unless you are all-of-a-sudden in a hurry, just order the tools from ebay. But call the dealer first to be sure they have them and to find out how much they are. Dealers like to charge whatever they can and I've read threads where people said they wanted $20 for them. (The one I usually go to wanted $10 plus an order fee of $5 and I would have had to wait a week.)

If you look around on the web you can also find pictures and just make some. You can use an old gift card if it is the thicker kind (like a credit card) to make them.

Be sure you have your radio code before you unplug your unit or you won't have anything at all afterward. ;)

courtney 06-27-2012 05:44 PM

thanks for reminding me about the code, i totally forgot about that, had the dealer look it up today off the vin

they had the radio pullers for 14.95 so i got them

it goes in the indie shop tomorrow for checkover so i will have them pull it and make sure it is a becker, hopefully it is and i will ship it off tomorrow

courtney 06-27-2012 11:13 PM

well i got brave and pulled it out tonite, it is a becker! yeah

so off to becker auto sound in the morning for a check up/repair and the aux installed

will be super happy to plug in my iPhone and listen to my music

The Dension Gateway 500 does plug into the back of the head unit, not the CD in the trunk.

More correctly, it interfaces with it and while it is very slick and does a lot more than provide an aux input, for $400+ it should also massage you while driving. :P :D

courtney 06-29-2012 01:11 PM

lol, i agree

would i get a better sound quality out of the dension than having becker add the plug for me?

Nope. Both will interface with the deck. If you can do what you want with the Becker aux-in, there's no point in spending the extra dough for the Denison, particularly since you'd probably have to pay someone to install it, too. The Becker will simply plug back in when you get it back and you can drop the aux jack into the cubby below the stereo.
