Is there any way to disable this? I have to set the radio too low at idle because once I get under speed it becomes too loud! As a result, I have to keep hitting the volume control toggle up and down--it's starting to be a pain.

have you considered driving it at less than triple digit speeds?

That's the amazing part: the automatic volume control curve crosses the road noise curve at about 40 mph; the volume keeps going with the speed but the road noise doesn't.
