W124 CD Changer Padding

I need to know what the original format is for a CD Changer mounted in the trunk of a 92 500E.

Personally I have seen some changers with a grey carpet enclosure which hides the CD Changer. In other cars I have seen the CD changer with nothing around it.

Does anyone know if the carpeting is considered stock in this car. If so, other than the dealership does anyone know where this can be purchased or does anyone have a spare (In good condition) they want to sell.

Thanks for the help.

Placo1 - did you buy the 500E without telling me?

I'd of thought you'd let us all know so we could share the experience vicariously.:D

Paul,

Not yet....but you guys will be the first to know.

I'm just gathering information so that as I come across different items I can purchase them and slowly rebuild the car.

Look for a post at the end of the month!

It depends on the cd changer. The becker 980 10 cd changer doesn't have a carpet cover as it is so big there isn't room for it. The alpine cd changer had a carpeted cover that went on it. If you need to add a cd changer then there is an aftermarket manufacture that makes a similar cover that works on the newer alpine cd changer. If you need the oe cover I am sure to have one some where.

Scott,

The cd changer in the car is a Mercedes Changer. I assume that Becker made the changer for the 92 500E. Does that mean that the changer never did have the carpeting around it?

You mentioned you might have an OE Carpeting, if this will fit around the CD Changer mentioned above let me know what your asking.

Thanks for the help by the way, its good to know an audio expert that also knows Mercedes.

Hi Scott-

I added the Alpine CD changer to my '94 E500, but didn't know the carpet casket for it was/is available.

Is it relatively easy to install?

Can you dig one up for me please? I'm in SF, CA. I can authorize charge and shipping per phone.

The capet cover only works on the 6 cd changer and I will look for one for you Fad.

You know, Scott I'd love one of these covers too. I've got the Alpine 620 Changer which is the same size and the same mounting hardware of the MB units right?

Let me know what you want for one also.

Can't wait to get those rainbows in! :)

Scott,

So the Mercedes 6CD changer is too large. That would explain why some cars have them and some don't.

At least others know where they can get this carpet for the Alpines.

Thanks for the help

...the carpet padding for Alipine CD players can be ordered through Circuit City

they were formerly an in-stock item, but now are special order only
