300 CE Door Speakers

Hi all,

I just bought a 91 300CE, with the original Becker Mexico radio.

I realized that the fader does not work for the door speakers, also seems that they only handle low frequencies.
Do they work as sub woofers? What is the size ? Are they amplified by the radio?

I hope someone could help.

Not sure on the size, but I do know they are called door subs.

They are a 6" sub powered by an amplifier in the right rear side panel in the trunk.

Thank you guys.
One of speakers is blown, so I will replace it.

Let us know what you replace it with. I need to do the same thing.

Deuce,

Iīve changed for a pair of 60WRMS, big magnet, mid basses.
But they are 4ohms, and Iīve just realized that the originals were 2ohms when I replaced them.
With the new pair, the amplifier almost died! The sound is low, and if I increase the bass, distortion appears.

So, a possible solution would be a pair of dual voice coil speakers, but up to now, they do not exist in 6 inches, or try to find new ones with a 2 ohms load. Maybe new originals.
Also maybe, the guys at La Jolla Audio know were to find.

If you find something, let me know.

the midbasses in the door are 2 ohm? i know they have a coil on them (sounds like cutoff point is around 300hz), but that's weird. Scott, the speakers in our 124's aren't actively crossed over at the amp, are they? I thought all the speakers are capped/coiled at the driver and they should be 4 ohms all the way around. Do you know much about the amp driving them? Does it do something like 20wattsx6 for the 6 speakers?

The dash mid and the door woofer are wired in parallel off the front channel and the rear midd and tweeters run off of the rear channel. The dash speaker usually is 6 ohm but it could be 4 ohm and the door sub is 2 ohm with a filter on it. The rear speakers are 6 ohm and then there are two tweeters on each side. The stock amp is @ 20 watts a channel and each amp is 2 channel with no active crossovers. (there are two amps)
