Placing a sub in a W124 T model
 

Hello gang,

I have a -92 W124 wagon that I'm going to put a sub in to match the front sytem that has been upgraded from stock.

The thing is that I need all of my avaliable loading area/volume so this makes things a tad bit more complicated wheen placing a sub and amp that tends to get quite bulky.

My idea is to replace the rearmost hatch in the floor with a new panel that will host a 12" sub and an amp. I really like the bass so this is the smallest element I'll consider.

The volume in this compartment is perfect for the element I've found and by putting all components on the new hatch I won't alter or destroy any of the original interior details, A big plus when sale time comes up.

The trickiest part looks like it will be to stabilizing the sheetmetal walls in the "box" to prevent rattling/hollow sound. I'm still thinking about this part.

Has anyone done something like this before?

When I'm done with the details I'm going to lock down the hatch with the 5 bolts you might see around the perimeter of the hatch.
This I'll do by removing the sub that is mounted from above and then reaching my slim and limb arm down the hole:rolleyes:

Carpet looks decent, but I'm sure you can get some factory matched carpet from an upolstery shop to really make it perfect. but it looks great.

How does it sound for you? does the sub have enough air space to sound good? I'm sure if it didnt you would have modified your design. :)

I'll post some pics of my install in my coupe. it loks decent, but I lost trunk space, I'm ok with that though.

My original plan was too find another hatch from a wrecked car but I didn't have the patience for that so I did it like this instead.

Total time from purchase of sub and amp to photosession was only 5 hours........:eek:

It plays really good not only in the lower regions but also handles rock very well, I'm surprised it sounds as good as it does and when I add some dampening material inside the box it hopefully will be even better.
