Got OEM CD Changer... Mounting help?
 

First and foremost, I LOVE HAVING THE WIRED CD Changer in my C280! Definitly sounds MUCH better than the darn RF 10 disc changer that came with the car! For now, I have decided to keep the 10 disc unit as a secondary CD changer, since it's already installed, I figure I might as well have a 16 disc changer!
Well I purchased a used Alpine changer with adaptor from a man on this website for $120 (thanks again!!!!), I got it today, plugged it in and it sounds BEAUTIFUL! So much better than radio!
Anyway, the unit came with mounting plates to mount up on the top of the trunk (attached to trunk ceiling). Well, for now I already have one changer hanging from there, and don't really want another changer on the other side to block trunk access even more. I know that it is supposed to go in the storage pocket there on the passenger side. However, I couldn't find any mounting places in the pocket. SO I then checked out the factory CD player and install in the CLK... I saw that the CD changer holder wasn't even attached, just wedged in to the storage area.

Question, can I purchase just a CD pocket to wedge in and hold the changer?

Hey David,

I doubt you'll find such a thing - I just thought about how some items I've received in the mail have been packed. They were wrapped in thin plastic and then foamed in place in the box! You might be able to do the same thing - it would be real snug. Another option for you might be pre-cut foam blocks that photographers use for their gear boxes. You just tear out the shape that you need. Either way just allow for some air circulation and you should be fine!

oh you mean you want to buy that "holster" piece in the CLK that holds the changer. i suppose you can, did you check with the dealer?

I sell an aluminum bracket for $40 that attaches the alpine cd changer in the pocket.

The cd changer you posted an image of isn't the factory one. if it interfaces with the radio controls, then fine. I am unsure if it will attach to a factory bracket or not. Yes, the bracket was always sold seperately from the changer, 2 different part numbers. On the 202, if you raise the trunk floor mat, you will see 2 pre-drilled holes, this is where the top screws for the bracket screw in. There is no bottom screws. instead, there is a short metal rod, that sticks through the inside wall of the pocket, it's angled down slightly. The rod is engaged into a corresponding hole in the wall, then the bracket drops down more so that you can start the screws, Tightening the screws wedges the whole bracket sturdily into place.
Let me know if you need the part number for the bracket. I don't know if the holes for attaching the cd changer match up with what's in the changer. You are supposed to attach the changer to the bracket, then install the bracket to the car. Make sure the orientation of the bracket is set to Vertical.

Thanks for all your posts all over this site, they are great. On a more personal note I'm looking for a picture, dimensions or a schematic of the bracket you’re talking about above. I'd like to have my dad build me one, as he has access to a wire welder, aluminum and is really good with that type of thing, all I would need is a picture or something to go by. I think $40 - $50 is a little to much when I could have my dad build it for the $10 worth of aluminum.

I could probably make a sketch easier than getting a picture to you, no digital camera or anything (why don't all of you pitch in and buy cheapo Gilly a digital camera, I'll put it to good use!).
I'll have to see if we even have one around to measure off of.

I have the same question, but for a 'l95 E320. I spoke with a Mercedes parts person but he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Any suggestions for coming at least reasonably close to a Mercedes standard install for an aftermarket (i.e., Alpine CD-changer for the E320?
