Recommend New System for 1991 350SDL?
 

I am at the point of replacing the original sound system in my dd. (I don't have any cassettes left!) Can anyone recommend a mid to high end system (receiver with bluetooth and usb inputs) as well as replacement speakers? I am tired of fighting with the current receiver... Thanks for any suggestions! Honestly, just shop around and find something in your price range from a quality manufacturer. I based my requirements more on appearance than anything else, but did get a middle of the range unit. I believe I bought a Kenwood because it was one of the least flashy units available - limited chrome bits. I wanted something that would blend in fairly well with my stock dash. Do get an installation kit with the correct adapter for your car, it will make it much easier to install since you can do all the soldering/crimping on the bench, and you shouldnt need to modify your cars wiring. You might want to upgrade your speakers at the same time. Unfortunately my w123 only takes 3.5" and 4.25" speakers stock, so I am fairly limited in the sound quality I can get. At some point I plan to install a sub/amp combo unit under the seat to try to get a reasonable amount of mid/low range.

Yeah, I was suspecting that was the case. I am definitely replacing the speakers. At 25 years old, they have definitely seen better days. Thanks for the reply...

If it helps, I have a Kenwood kdc-bt55u, and like it quite a bit. It has a few annoyances, mainly that it doesn't remember the color settings when the battery is disconnected - which is silly since it clearly has some memory capabilities (it remembers Bluetooth pairings just fine), so every time you disconnect the battery it goes back to rolling colors. I liked the appearance, since it's not as flashy as other designs, though optimally I'd prefer to have a single DIN unit with a touchscreen, so it would blend in better when the car's turned off, but I haven't seen anything like that lately.

I have Rockford Fosgate Prime speakers - again because they are not flashy, and because they have flush mounted tweeters with a minimal front-mount depth, which means they fit under my stock speaker grilles. They sound pretty good, but since I'm limited in speaker size, they are lacking on the midrange to low end.
