Trunk Star

One of the first things that happened after I put my subs into my 300SD was that the trunk star rattled right off the car. Its lying in some street somewhere so before I buy a new one I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with his. There is a little hole in the trunk where part of the star has to fit in and all of the presswure from the subs probly pushes right into it and rattles the star off.

I have built lots of systems for the mercedes and have never had that happen. Are the clips there that keep it in? It must not have been in tight.

Star man waiting in the sky.....

He'd like to come and greet us, but he thinks he'd blow our minds...

Anyway...

On my w123 the trunk star (emblem) bolts on. The nut can become loose. The occasional tightening is needed (even without a subwoofer installed yet. We've been swapping posts in another thread about that.)

I would be really careful fastening a new star (about 16 bucks here at fastlane) The metal the star 'bolt' extension is made from VERY soft metal, almost porous. I snapped one trying to fasten it with a ratchet. It has to be just tight enough - not too tight, otherwise the bolt extension just SNAPS. Very frustrating.

Besides you may want to replace that lost star soon. Not only for aesthetics, but now you have a hole, where water can get into the trunk. Also the area around the hole is a great place for rust to start.

Have Fun,
James

I've never had that happen... I have my license plate cover rattle around a lot, but thankfully nothing like that yet. I'd be mortified without my emblem

Did you order that Trunk star emblem yet? Take a look at this:

It ends soon. Good Luck.

Question Which one do I want....

Hey;

You may have gotten your answer already, but if not call the PartShop or FastLane directly and ask (Phil) them. I think its Phil. He has been very helpful to me in the past.

Good Luck,
J
