Replacing OE Radio losing steering wheel inputs

Greetings,
Working on my 2002 E430.....
I Would like to replace the OE radio with something a little more modern for blutooth connectivity and handsfree cell phone. Spoke to the folks at Crutchfield and was told that the pigtail adaptor plug for the head unit to direct plug into MB factory wiring harness stereo plug will not get you steering wheel controls. No more cell phone area microphone, no radio volume control and no answer/hangup phone controls. Does MB make any adaptor so as not to lose the steering wheel controls and microphone when upgrading radio head unit? It sucks that it's all factory in the car but inaccessible when the head unit is swapped.

Thanks..
Kevin
