1984 190d Front Speakers
Hi, I have a 1984 190d with blown front speakers and I'm not sure how to access them. Typically you just remove the speaker covers and they come out just like the back speakers. My car does not have speaker covers in the front, it is built into the dash, there are tiny holes in the dash. I assume I can get to the passenger speaker if I remove the glove box. The photos I have seen on the Internet show 190s with speaker covers in the front. Any ideas? Was this design only on the older 190s?

After I posted this I took a good look at the dash and realized it was a cover. I've been driving this car daily for years and never noticed. When I bought the car I remember noticing the dash was in real good condition. I have seen the carpet dash covers but didn't realize they made a cover that could be glued on. I should have known I believe even the older W123s had speaker covers. With that being said is there a way to get to the speakers without tearing the dash apart?

I don't think there is a way to get the speaker out from underneath because they're top-mount. This thread on another forum has pics. http://mercedes-190.co.uk/topic/8005787/1/
Luckily the late dashes that are far more impervious to the elements are compatible with earlier W201s should you not like what you find under that dash pad. Last edited by party; 03-01-2018 at 11:57 PM. |

Thanks that's what I figured. I assumed they are just like the back speakers. I may try to get the dash cover off without tearing it up, try a heat gun but I have my doubts it will work.
Our power went out yesterday morning when the storm and winds came through and rumor is it won't be back on until the middle of next week so this project will have to wait until another weekend. |
