300E - Best place for CD changer?

Hey guys -

Just got a second hand Alpine S624 6-disc changer to go with my existing Ai Net head unit (already installed). I'm wondering where the best place to install the changer is? It doesn't seem to fit in the glove compartment (best choice for me). Anyone have any experience to add before I start getting my drill out?

Also - the unit didn't come with mounting brackets. It looks quite simple to make some...just four screw holes on each side and a couple of pieces of sheet metal bent at 90 degrees. Can anyone with an Alpine changer confirm this? Thanks!

I've got a similar 6 disc changer mounted in my 300E in the trunk mounted to the underside of the cargo shelf on the passenger side -- it works great there; just have to put in the discs you want before you take off.

Thanks for the input, Don. I'm trying to mount it somewhere inside the car, rather than the trunk, so I (or rather the passenger) can change CDs without pulling over.

I was thinking maybe under the first aid box cover? Would sunlight/heat be a problem? I'd leave the first aid box cover on to hide the changer and protect it from direct sunlight.

I'm still curious to know how Flavio got his in his glove box...

you could remove the glovebox and mount it in there... or you could mount it on the underside of the passenger dash area, but it might affect the feet.

I just posted on Flavius' thread...

I'm going to try removing the liner or trimming it slightly...we'll see how it fits. Thanks Alon.

Thanks for the help Flavio, Ashman. I installed the changer last night in the glove box. I had to cut out a small section (2"x3") of the left rear corner of the glove box, but the Alpine fits in there perfectly now - very snug but still plenty of air circulation. The other bonus is that I didn't have to use the mounting brackets.

P.S. It sounds fantastic! :D
