Location of amp in 300te

My 300te is almost complete after completely stripping the interior and cleaning everything. Now I'm putting a stereo in the car. When I bought the car there was a broken after market head unit and CD changer between the rear seat and the third seat. The factory amp was gone.

Now I am looking at an Alpine unit that needs an external amp. Where is the location of the factory amp on this car? I thought it was in the wheel well where the first aid kit is. How is it attached if that is the correct location? I have some water in the well there, so I'm wondering if there is a drain plug that is missing.

Any advice on where I can put a small amp if I have to move it from the original location? Can anyone recommend a good stereo installation shop with Mercedes experience in the Seattle area? Besides an aftermarket head unit and amp I want to keep the car as close to factory specs as possible. Thanks!

Did you replace all the carpet in the rear cargo area? Where did you get the carpet?

Failed to add: Yes the factory amp is located in the wheel well. It's below the power antenna and mounts to the metal bar towards the inside of the wheel well.

The carpet was removed and cleaned. There were a few small pieces of carpeting that were replaced, but the original form was used and replacement carpeting was cut and glued onto the form. None of the replacement carpeting was ordered in pre-made condition.

The carpeting under the rear and third seats wasn't removed, only cleaned. Check it out:

Anyone have an image of the amp mounted in the wheel well? Was the Mercedes amp built to attach there or was there an adaptor? Was there a protective covering, or do I have to find my leak?

thanks

300 TE Speakers

Hey pmpski_1,

You have your door panels off. What size speakers go in the front doors of the 300TE? Size for back doors?

I have a bad MBZ amp. Head unit had seen better days. Am putting in a nice head unit and must replace speakers too. Would love to know sizes so I can do this with minimal downtime.

I apppreciate any input.

Speaker sizes

Jeff,

My car is back together so I can't measure them now. I left the stock speakers in there for now, I'll upgrade them later. I know there have been lots of discussions about replacement speakers and sizes on this forum.

Using the search function will get you the info. Here's a thread that I found using search. This should tell you what you need to know:

Seattle area audio

pmpski
Did you happen to find an audio shop in Seattle that could work on your Mercedes? I am looking for one now. Thanks.
