factory installed amp in 1977 300D

I am a newbie here so I would like to thank everyone in advance for the help I get.

I would like to install a new audio reciever in my 1977 300D. When I purchased the reciever I was told that the installation was going to cost more than the reciever due to wiring around the factory installed Amplifier. Can anyone tell me where this might be located on this model.

Thanks! Cendy

I believe your car is older than my 86' W126. All you need is to tell the dealer to remove the factory system and label the harness as which goes where, speakers, antenna....etc. Or you could ask anyone with audio skill to do that for you. It's pretty simply in the older cars. With the factory Becker off, I put a new one in about 15 minutes. And I don't think there's amplifer in there at the time. At least there isn't one in my 86.

Return the receiver and go to another shop. It shouldn't take more than a $20 wiring adapter kit and 15 minutes labor to install a DIN chassis factor stereo in a 77 300D. It's no more difficult than installing a receiver in a Honda and shops must do dozens of those a day.

:D Thank you gentlemen!! dtkw, you are correct, there is no amp in this little gem. Sixto thank you as well. I did not return the receiver but I did install it and it only took me about 45 minutes. Of course you have to remember I am a woman. Ha!Ha! I think that is why the shop wanted to sell me a high dollar install. There is music in my ears and in my benz now.

Thanks again:)

Sixto:

Installing a stereo in a Honda (or most Japanese cars) is usually easy because most trim pieces just unsnap, plus wiring harnesses are easy to get ahold of. :)

Glad to hear that you did it. Enjoy!

Hello Cendy.

I would go back to that shop and ask the
person who told you about the amp to find it
for you, then make him look like the fool he is.

But stay close to him when he's looking for it
because he might try some funny stuff by
putting one in there somewhere and then
say to you:See that it is there!

Oh,I forgot.

If they ask for payment then tell them:
Should I pay for being conned and ripped-off?

If this person isn't the owner demand to speak
to him and explain the matter to him.
If he is the owner then let him know that
it is against the law to discriminate against
the female gender and that he'll be hearing
from your lawyer soon.

Also report him to your local beter business bureau.

People like that give honest hard working people
a bad image and it should not be tollerated.

Who knows how many women that this guy has
done this to.

One thing that may be occuring is that he would have to bypass the fader switch in the console and secondly, probably did want to sell a pricier unit.

I had a 450SEL that the PO had installed an aftermarket deck in and it took me a while to unravel the rats nest inside the console.

Many people are looking for the easy way and have no regard for someone coming in after them.
