The ICE Age Begins....

I have been stripping the interior of my 500E slowly for a while and fixing little things along the way. I started the process of insulating / deadening the cabin last weekend but only got about half way. I was a bit surprised at how much of a ring existed in some of the areas (cross pieces and rear seat ). The Dynamat really seemed to make a difference.
I will post a pic as soon as I find time to shrink it down...

Are you talking about the 500E or the CLK?

Out of curiosity, who made your custome door panels, and why do you need to dye them to match?

The MB Tex vinyl would not work well on this complex shape.
I think if I did it over again, I would change the shape to try to simplify the curves to make it easier to cover in vinyl or carpet.

I'm confused. The part came in MBTex, and the color of the MB Tex does not much the vinyl of the door panel? I thought your door panels were vinyl, with the insert being leather.

I forgot the name of the company, but there is a company, I think called something like "Jennert" that makes these panels in Europe.

Is that what you bought?

The Jehnert panels are a bit different - they fit two 6.5" speakers in the rearward part of the map pocket. Who made you the custom panels, and how much did it cost? I'm curious too!

I had a friend help me with them. I did take them to a shop to have them covered.

For the money, the Jehnert panels are great. I just wanted something different.

O.K., so now you finally answer my question of yesterday.

You had them custom made, and covered in vinyl (not MB Tex), so the color doesn't match your interior well.

No problem. It's just that the quality of the panels is so good, that I thought you bought them from Jenhert. I assumed that Jenhert makes them in stock oem colors, so I was curious why they didn't match your interior well.

Have you decided on where you are going to buy the dye?

Many members have used leatherique.com and colorplus.com.

I have the dye already. Got it from Leatherique.
They are great to work with.
The preparation is very labor intensive.

How costly is that Dynamat for such a large amount?

Dynamat is a bit more expensive than some options, but I played it safe. I have seen products on ebay that claim to work and cost much less. I bought a bulk pak for $138, but need just a bit more to finish.
It is amazing the amount of tonal "ring" that is removed with the dynamat. The back wall (behind/under the seat) was very tinny
as well as the cross members and the rockers. MB does a great job in some areas of the car, but IMHO should have done a bit more.
