Radio Problems - 129
Just curious if anyone has had a similar problem.
The radio was at a very modest level when I heard a few pops in different speakers. Then a lot of static, which also happens on start up or shut down. The radio is working, albeit at a very low volume but has no amp power. Comments anyone, TIA. 36 |
Check the AMP. I have not had this trouble in my 129, but in my 140, the Bose amp decides to fizzle out and in doing so it snaps crackles and pops! most the time the right channel goes out. Good luck!

With the limited sound, can you tell where it comes from? If it doesn't come from the large door speakers, the fault is indeed probably the main amp. This is located in the passenger footwell up against the firewall and is easily accessed by peeling back the carpet and removing a plastic cover. If you have the Bekker system, you can get a remanufactured exchange amp for about $100 directly from Bekker US. Chek the web.

Thanks Brian, thanks Scott. It is a Becker, my tech had suggested it was the amp but I'll see if the remanufactured unit works for me price wise.

The volume control on my '93SL stopped working, either up or down. Before spending lots of $$$, I went to Radio Shack and bought a $7 can of electronic parts spray cleaner. I used the small tube attachment to spray some cleaner inside the volume control lever, moved the lever up and down a few times and it worked!

Thanks for the thought Stuart.
Had some spray around and gave it a shot....still a no go. Have to find some garage time soon. |
If you need a new amp there is one on ebay.

Thanks B129.
As if by magic, all is working fine today after a month of problems. Each time I've started up all has been well. Who knows, perhaps Stuart's advice worked on a belated basis. Thanks again. |
