My bass killed my alternator!!!

Hello Board,

After a post on whether or not bass was an alternator killer, I proceeded to have 2 12" subs and a 1000 watt amp installed in my 300E. 5 days later my battery died. I think my alternator might have went out, but after leaving my car for a couple of hours it re-started fine. I took my car to the shop and had a 200 amp alternator installed in my car just in case. My dash lights are brighter and so are my interior lights, my windows and sunroof move a lot faster also. I can swear my car feels a lot faster! It still has the hesitation problem, but when I press the gas at freeway speeds my car rockets off, even with the 18 inch rims.

Could a new alternator make the car faster?

Bass might have killed my old alternator.

BTW I have The (possibly dead)alternator and 2 month old voltage regulator(great condition) for sale!

Hi Mike.

Probably what is happening is that the coil
is getting more juice and is giving the spark
plugs more spark, thus creating a better
combustion of the fuel/air mixture.

I could be wrong, please correct if so.

Louis.

PS:Did you have any problem installing this
alternator?
I would like to put a higher amp one in my
w123 turbo diesel but don't know if one is
available or which one would fit.

Actually I had an alternator/battery shop install it. Total Charge (including labor) $150!! The MB 60 amp alternator cost $195(without labor). The alternator I have now is a 200 amp GM alternator.Well when it comes to installation, they actually kept my original alternator bracket and fit the new alternator to it.
