Power Antenna Question?
Car is an 1988 190e 2.3L. To make a long story short, the power antenna was not working. During the time it was not working I had a new stereo installed. Now I had the motor on the antenna fixed last week and I am now installing it. Though, when I turn on the radio it does not work. Ther radio is a Pioneer, Face Detachable CD player/radio.
Now my question is if the power for the antenna routed through the radio? Therefore if radio not correctly installed - no power to antenna? Furthermore, the switch that controls the antenna does not work? Is this on a seperate power thread from the radio or is it if radio is not giving power to the antenna, this switch will not work anyway? I have checked the fuse to the antenna it is good. Is there a relay hooked to the antenna? If so where located? Thanks, Iggy

The antenna expects a 12v signal when the radio is turned on. The height adjustment only works when the antenna has been turned on by the radio. Setting this up should be part of the install; although if the antenna wasn't working they might not have bothered.

Thanks
Steve
Thanks for the reply. I live in Guatemala and I basically guarantee you that since the antenna was not working that they did not bother connecting the radio/antenna correctly. I was jsut wnated to make certain that all the power to the antenna was through the radio and that the height adjustment only worked when properly connected. I guess I am off to the radio installation store. Thanks once again. Iggy

Update
Just to update. Took the car to the place where I had the radio installed. To make a long story short I finally convinced the tech that the install was not done properly. He pulled the radio and out and¨for sure, there was the antenna wire that was not connected to the radio. Hooked it up, and IT WORKS!!!!
Thanks Iggy

Gregg:
A couple fo things. First, you should check to see if you still have the antenna motor. It is located behind the plastic in the trunk on the driver's side of the car. From there, you need to check if the motor is still functioning. If it is still functioning, you can get just the antenna mast from Fastlane, which is a lot cheaper than the entire motor with a new mast. As for the antenna wire. There are two behind the radio. One is what is actually hooked upto the radio to increase signal reception. The second one, is a black wire (if I recall correctly) that hooks to the radio which is used as a power source/signal to let the motor know that the radio is on therefore, raise the antenna. If this is not connected, even the height adjustment button on the dash does not operate. Laslty, if you just have a hole where the antenna was do not forget to also order the rubber parts that go there so that water does not enter the trunk and the antenna motor. Iggy

Sorry... You are talking about the radio and not the antenna. My mistake. It is a black wire with a regular conector at the end of it. You need to hook this to the new radio that you install. Which wire to use from the radio, I could not tell you. All I saw was that the tech connected the black wire to a blue wire coming from a Pioneer radio that I had installed. Once that this was connected, the antenna began working.

Sorry to post this in parts....
But I just remembered to mention, that until this wire was connected to the radio, the antenna motor was not receiving any power. I knew that the motor was fixed and good because I connected a 12v power supply to the motor to make certain that it functioned.

antenna
antenna is there, in retracted position. I expect it to work as everything else on this car works (except A/C...may need a charge)
