Sound Test for factory system

I know this sounds (pardon the pun) strange, but I'm wondering how to diagnose whether my sound system is operating at spec.

The problem is that "I'm sure" the sound wavers. What I mean is the volume intensity goes up and down at times and the sound changes from tinny to my relatively neutral settings and back again. I think it may be the amps because my sub wasn't working and then by cranking the volume, the thing has kicked back in and is now working. But the other sound variations happen while the car is both moving and when still, intermittently of course.
BTW, I'm not describing the volume adjustment when I reach 25mph, this is something strange!

This is the factory bose system on the CLK. Is there some diagnostic CD that can be put in and test the sound at each speaker and overall??? Scott...anyone....help

Thx!

What year is your clk? You might check in with my repair shop and ask cleeve what he has seen on your car at www.lajollaaudiorepair.com. If the subs are cutting in and out I would have to say it is probably the amp....
