My 84 190E has light tan colored carpet on the center console areas. It has suffered form both age and a driver who likes to eat while they drive. It looks bad. How can I clean this rug: rip it out and put in the washing machine, or just buy a new set.

You may remove it by slowly peeling it off, and take care not to tear it of. Give it a clean with one of those fabric cleaners, and not washing machine. Replace.

I do this often for my console .... once every so often when I feel like it. :)

These carpets in the console of the 190 can be taken out rather easily...you can try the washing machine...
