What is the best wax you can buy for a Mercede Benz, as far as buying it from a store. Gary

Hi Gary,

I asked the same question not long ago and received a deluge of responses. Apparently, the majority of people recommend Zaino Bros. wax. However, in terms of an easily obtained "store" wax, I think the consensus is on Meguiars.

A question like that has more than one answer. Everyone has their favorites, most have their esoteric/exotic favorites. For easy to find, overall ease of use, good results Meguiar's Gold Class is hard to beat. You can get waxes that are superior to one aspect of it in some way but generally lose out in others for some reason. For a "can't go wrong" easy option, go with the Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax. You should be able to find it at most stores both automotive and even a few dept stores. Run a search and be prepared to do some reading.... If you have any specific questions (such as best wax for this specific situation) let me know and we can address them individually.

Hope this helps,
Lee

The most important part of making your paint look great is in the preparation of the paint. Wax is simply a sacrificial coating that protects the paint. Read Lee's FAQ on preparing the finish and follow it to the letter.

Then, find a wax, not a cleaner wax, if you followed Lee's procedure your paint will be in better condition than any cleaner wax can provide. A wax like Mequire's, Wax Shop, Mothers, ect. will all do a fine job. I like Turtle Wax Emerald or Wax Shop. They go on and come off easily, and don't leave a lot of residue dust.

You might want to invest in a random orbit polisher. I bought one at Walmart two years ago for abound $20.00 and it still works fine. There are more expensive ones, but I figure if you are not doing this for a living, a cheap one will do just fine. They do a great job of applying polish and wax and you would really have to try to damage your paint.

Follow Lee's directions, especially claying and you will be amazed at how good your paint will look and feel. After that, wash weekly with a good car wash liquid and wax monthly. Your friends will think you take your car to a detailer all the time.
