Anyone else as picky as I am with the interior?
Just finished wiping down every plastic, vinyl and door seal in my car with I light coat of lexol. Tomorrow I am going to use the UV protectant 303. When I say everything was wiped down, I mean everything, I was climbing around my car like a monkey reaching hard to hit spots. I think this coupled with the 15% tint I just got on my car will protect it from the sun Just maybe, LOL

You're not picky.. good attempt
I remove the carpets, vacuum under them and shake them outside and then vacuum. Dust the entire interior then go over with Meguirs natural shine/protectant. The seats get their monthly Lexol treatment. I need floor mats still(coco please) so I shampoo the front carpets once a month as well. After everything is wiped with the UV protectant I clean all of the wood with furniture polish. The glass is done on the inside and out. I clean the door jambs, wax them. Polish the chrome in the door jambs and on the interior. I also use a toothbrush to clean the hard to reach areas between the seat tracks every now and then. Then when all of that is done I put the carpets back. Spritz the interior with some Poor Boys World Leather scent and seal up the car. Just this past week I removed the battery and battery tray and cleaned all of that out as well. I cleaned all of the dirt and grime. Waxed and sealed the paint, cleaned the drains and put the battery tray and battery back .No pics of the rest since the dirties part was the hydraulic pump area. Everything was cleaned and waxed. everything was wiped down with 303 as well The weekend before that I removed everything in the trunk, including the liners and cleaned the hydraulic pump area since one of the trunk vents came loose. everything was cleaned as best as possible.That black bracket will be coming off soon and get sand blasted and repainted. I take my cleaning very serious. For the Lake Mirror Car show I went all out. I think next time I will fabricate some stands so I can show off the wheel wells and how clean they can be for a daily driver. Beautiful cars!
Tomorrow I'm taking some "Back to Black" and a q-tip and doing all of the rubber trim inside and out. The turn signal switch really needs it. On another note, the rear seat arm rest in a 85 300D is very strange, I tried pulling it down today and couldn't get it out until I saw the tab on the bottom. What a complicated way to fold out. |

Yea it really is, I have used it on my previous two cars, a Honda and a Lexus. Really helped to protect them in the AZ sun.

You guys who live outside the salt belt don't know how lucky you have it. I can clean all the painted surfaces on my cars, but every unpainted surface would require hours of polishing with steel wool or something... Only to get all corroded the next time I went for a drive this time of year. I've thought about polishing the valve cover and crossover pipe on my SDL, but it would just look like earrings on a pig considering the state of the cylinder head, and every single hose and faster under the hood
I do love how the front carpets come out easily though

Do you mean in the living room and kitchen like I am doing right now? I could not think of a better place to do the work if I might say so myself. I am cleaning every part of the interior and recovering some of the trim as well while I am changing out my old Burgandy interior in ops for the Black going back in from a 91 parts car so yeah I guess I am kind of picky about it.

I can get away with a lot of this because a lot of the "stuff" you use on a car also happens to be very good to use in the home. For example, I use Lexol on leather furniture; most glass cleaners they sell for the home are crap compared to "good" automotive windex, rain-x, and so on. So, I use some on "house detailing", and she's happy.
