Tinting windows

Hi,

I would like to know how much it would cost(give or take) to have my 1988 W126's windows tinted? I was hoping someone here would probably know.

Thanks

I was looking through the previous pages and I think I found something on page 6.

I found a price range from $115 to $500.

If I were to have all my windows(windshield, 4 side windows, and rear) tinted, what would be the cost? I noticed most of the people in the previous thread did not have the windshield tinted.

Had five windows tinted with metallized,w/ lifetime guarantee, in Grand Rapids recently and paid $140 and tipped the actual install guy ten bucks before he started to treat it like his own

I paid $115 for all windows other than the windshield. I dont know what the laws are like where you live, but in california if you tint your windshield and get in an accident, no matter whose fault it was, you'll get the blame.

I live in Ohio... and I see a whole lot of cars here with tinted windshield. I don't think its against the law here.

I did it a small shop in grand rapids. That is all they do all day long is tint cars. I highly recommend this type of shop. I did not do my windshield as with black interior and 5 tinted windows it is already dark enough in there. But I like the looks and it will not cost much at all to do.

If you don't want the po pos coming after you, maybe try light tint on windshield and front windows, and limo on the three back windows.

peace

I looked up the tint laws for Ohio and this is what I came back with:

You can tint the windshield with any percentage up to five (5) inches from the top edge of the glass, The front and rear side windows and rear window can be tinted with up to 50% tint (50% being the amount of light allowed to pass through the tint.

If you want to do this as cheaply as possible, you can do all the side windows yourself, as they are flat for the most part. Get some cheap tint and try doing it yourself first. The front and rear, I suggest you get a shop to do as with the curved glass, tinting is a real pain-in-the-a$$.

I had my 300E tinted here in Phoenix last week. I had limo black put on the 3 rear windows, and one shade darker then what's supposedly legal here on the front, but left the windshield as is. Apparently the only time you'll get harrassed here is if you do the windshield. (You can put about 3 or 4 inch strip at the top, but I preferred factory on this as it is graduated, not a hard line). The guy who did it is a mobile shop, came to my work and did it here, recommended by a friend and been doing it for 13 years.

We had discussions about fully metalic versus semi and he recommended the semi, saying that some clients complained about glare at night from the full. Both have a lifetime warranty on them, so I took his advice. Cost was 160 total and I'm thrilled with the job. Against my white paint, it looks great!

What do the % mean? Ex.. if its a 25% tint... 75% of the light passes through? or how is it?

Other way around. The % of the tint is the % light that passes through.

I got my windows (7) done (35%) about 3 weeks ago.

A friend of mine with a 99 C-230 got hers done at the Mercedes Dealer in Escondido. She paid "2 hundred and something". I called them and they told me it would be $220 for my 99 S-420, a much bigger car than the C-230. I asked him something and the dealer said they just send it out to Tint Man or Mr. Tint. I called them (Mr. Tint) and they quoted and did mine for $170. The Mercedes dealer make $50 by driving your car 2 miles to Tint Man.
