Question motor oil on paint #2

well the apraiser from the insurance company came out..what a laff..

he told me to pour white vingar and Kerosene on the paint to get the oil stuff off..now who would take that advise? geesssshhh what an idiot

I did report him to the insurance company and now I have to wait another day for another person to come look at the car

does anyone know how they figure the value of the car? I looked on NADA and the value is $8000 to 13,000....they told me they could total the car because of the paint or give me a salvage title.

any help would be wonderful dealing with people like the kerosene vingar guy...*L*

One clarification in case you misunderstood: If they give you a salvage title, they have totaled the car. You would need to reregister it or sell it. The normal procedure I understand when a car is totaled is the insurance company pays the value of the car, plus the cost of registration, minus the deductible. Then they may offer to sell you the car on the salvage title, usually at the average for the recent salvage auctions for that car type. This would be entirely at your option, if you decline to buy the car back the insurance company will have it towed away.

All the above seems to have at least a little room for negotiation. In my one experience of having a Jaguar totaled after hitting a deer, they asked me what I thought the car was worth, and I quoted mid range book, and they agreed to that. If your car was in truly great shape, you could probably argue toward high end book.

At the very least....

At the very least they should have offered to pay to have a body shop wash it down with vinegar & kerosene :-)

Don't smoke on that job.

the guy told me to buy karosene and vingar and wash the car...

the 2nd guy came out today and he looked at all the new parts and the receipts etc (receipts for the last 2 years are over $8,000.00), the oil marks on the pavement, the miles (121,631)

took pictures and said what a beautiful car

according to the insurance company if the repairs are more than 75% of the value of the car they can total it or I can have it on a salvage title, I pulled several quotes on the net of the value of the car except KBB all of them came in at $8000 to $11,500
I have been told if I wanted the car repainted to new it would cost me about $4,000.00

I was also told that if they try that I can ask what would you give me to not total it or salvage it..

I dont think it will come to that but if it does I will keep the car but I know a salvage title will ruin the future value of the car

the insurance company came out did the check.

OK he cant find a *good* value on the car because KBB is so much lower than the others.

he isnt going to salvage the car title..nor declare it a total loss.

the damage the *oil stuff* caused in his opinion is $2700.00 thats after my deductable of $250.00

so now the story begins of getting the car fixed!!

if the shop runs into more problems all they have to do is call the insurance company and they will look at the car and get more money
