Hello all - I have a '73 450 SL with what I have concluded is a poor overspray paintjob. I bought the car knowing about the flaw. Now I want to know is if there is a cure or if the car will have to be stripped and repainted. From a distance the problem isn't really noticeable. Basically, all over the hood and trunk and on the upper part of the sides are hundred of pin head size bumps. Is there a way to smooth these out without ruining the finish, or is there a new paint job in my future. Thanks in advance.

I posted a reply earlier this am, hmmmm, wonder what happened?
Anyway, I know body shops use a more aggressive clay bar to get rid of heavy over-spray. You might want to talk to someone at a body shop about this. Also, try a regular clay bar. They say that it can get rid of over spray too. |

If it's dirt in the paint , most of it might be able to be sanded out if there is enough clear on it. Is it metallic? That is what I would try first. A good sand and buff can do wonders for a crappy paint job.
