Question how can i stop the skweaking sound from sun visor?

Is there something I can spary or wipe to stop the sun visor from creaking everytime i use them?

This happens only in the summer.

Thanks in advance for everyone's insight.

have you tried some kind of lubricant like lithium grease or some spray lubricant?

I killed all the crickets living on my center armrest by spraying purepower on all the joints and friccion areas.

http://www.gopurepower.com/purepower_grease_spray.html

This is a light lubricant / grease and the job was done very clean and without leaving odors or stains.

I use it because I have it handy at my garage, but you can try any other lubricant like WD-40, making sure you are going to shoot at the right point and having a cloth covering all the surrounding areas.

Good luck !

Radio Shack carries tubes of "SYNLUBE" grease which is teflon in a synthetic base; so, unlike WD-40, which is petroleum based, theres no risk of damaging an plastics in the car. It's pretty cheap, too.

Why not pull the visor and then clean the bar and its holder and lubricate it.

If your visor has the cosmetic mirror cover check that...the cover makes noises too and gives the impression that the entire visor is at fault...

sorry guys i haven't tried any of the remedies yet...just hasn't gotten hot enough here yet :-(

G-Benz...no the whole visor makes the noise from the movement of the visor to the plastic connecting rod

Dredging up this 2+ year old thread to see if anyone else weighs-in with the definintive answer.

I too have a rattling problem with my '89 420SEL's passenger side visor. I'm pretty sure that it's coming from the plastic vanity mirror (as G-Benz suggested 2 years ago). I've taken the whole visor/mirror assembly apart, cleaned, and lubricated it, but the creaking/rattling is back after just a few months. About the only thing that deadens it is tucking something like an envelope or small magazine under the visor; but I hate "non-solutions" like this.

Seems like a waste of $$$ to replace the whole part... Any better ideas???

As best as I can determine the creaking/squeaking is due to the visor material rubbing on the headliner material when driving on a rough road surface. Try rotating the visor about 1" away from the headliner and see if the creaking/squeaking stops.

Yes, opening the visor by a little definitely stops it; but that just begs the question... What can I do (short of replacing the assembly) that will get things back to normal: visor closed AND silent?

Thanks for replying!

This is quite annoying in such a wonderfull car. I too believe squeaking is caused from the two materials bouncing off each other. Last night I lifted them down a 1/4 " or less which stopped it but this too is not a real solution. I've thought of applying something to the surfaces, like Armor All but that I would think might make it worse.

I think I did something like that to stop the seats from squeaking where the plastic cover hit the leather. I'm sure someone has a good solution?

Treating the leather with conditioner (I used Leatherique, but I guess any quality one would do) stopped the squeaking caused by the seat rubbing against the plastic cover. Maybe that would also work with your visor?

Or perhaps a couple small strips of foam, fuzzy velcro, or rubber on one side of the mirror cover? I know on some vehicles (including W202's), the pass side front seat belt buckle comes with a strip of fabric on the side against the center console to stop rattles.

(This also happens on my 300E, but I just pull the visor down a little bit and ignore it.)
